Les Misérables

The barricade rises on Lantern Row. Twenty-eight voices, one revolve, and the score the world sings in its sleep.

The production

One Day More, Up Close

Released from nineteen years of chains, Jean Valjean breaks parole and remakes his life — while Inspector Javert's pursuit closes in and the students of Paris raise a barricade in the June streets. Fantine, Cosette, Éponine and Gavroche move through a city on the edge of revolution.

Our staging builds the barricade from the theatre's own history — factory carts, lantern frames and timber from the 1998 summer stage — with Julian Cross as Valjean and Elena Marsh as Fantine.

What the evening includes

  • A company of twenty-eight with the full pit orchestra
  • The revolve built by Lumen workshops — the barricade turns, literally
  • Captioned performance every Tuesday of the run
  • Schools' matinee with study guides for group bookings

“When the company turned to face the house for the finale, four hundred people stood as one. Bring tissues.”
