The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Hugo's Paris of bells, beggars and forbidden love — staged as sweeping dance-drama with our full company.

The production

Sanctuary, Sung And Danced

Quasimodo rings the bells of Notre Dame and watches the Feast of Fools from above — until Esmeralda's kindness draws him down into a Paris of courts, soldiers and Frollo's terrible certainty. Sanctuary is claimed, broken and claimed again.

Our adaptation moves between text and choreography: the cathedral is built from twelve dancers and three bells, and the Feast of Fools spills into the aisles. Marcus Bell plays Quasimodo; Elena Marsh dances Esmeralda.

“A cathedral made of bodies, a finale made of silence. The most physical storytelling Lumen has ever staged.”
