Swan Lake

Tchaikovsky's immortal ballet, danced by our twelve-strong company with the full pit orchestra in the pit.

The production

Thirty-Two Fouettés, One Lake

Prince Siegfried finds an enchanted lake where maidens turn to swans by day. Among them is Odette — and behind her, the sorcerer Rothbart and his daughter Odile, the Black Swan. Love, mistaken identity and one of the most demanding dual roles in ballet follow.

Our principal Elena Marsh dances Odette/Odile across all three performances, partnered by guest artist Tomas Rey. The lakeside scenes use the company's signature silk — forty metres of it, dyed by hand in the studio.

What the evening includes

  • Tchaikovsky's complete score played live by the Lumen Pit Orchestra
  • A pre-show talk on the ballet's history, 45 minutes before curtain
  • Family workshop: try the corps positions in the studio at noon

“A Swan Lake of rare intimacy — close enough to hear the pointe shoes land, grand enough to fill the lake with mist.”
